NemiCup Lillehammer

This Years first interesting thing was NemiCup Lillehammer and home-course. The last days I have had a cold and haven't done much training since Tuesday. I have been wondering if I even could participate this weekend. I decided to at least do the jumping and take it from there.

The Saturday was a bad day in that perspective. When I was going to put the rubber-band of my jumping suit under my shoes on the top of the hill it broke. Since it was snowing a lot and the time-schedule is tight, I know I can't make the time to go down, change suit and come up again to make the jump. That means that there is no lift from the suit and no balance. Finally that means no length. Also I know this when I am at the top, and gets very upset that this happens. So I am so angry that I don't know what I am doing technically. Since I still am somewhat ill, I decide to save energy and not risk more illness and drop out of the XC.

The Sunday is much better. The suit is fixed, my head is on the top of my shoulders and I do 2 okey jumps, even though the trial is a bit better than the comp-jump. My chances for a victory and the I decide to take the risk and do the cross country. The cross country is hard. My body is not very good. But I do a hard opening to get into Øysteins back and work with him until we lead together. When there is only the two of us, I get Øystein to do the hard work until the finish. Anyways, if I were to try to make more speed I would only destroy myself. Also, in a sprint I know will win against Øystein, and he knows that as well, so I had the mental upper-hand. In the sprint I took 10-12 good pushes and could control the victory a few meters ahead of Øystein. That means that i won! :D It so fun to win!!

Now I just hope that the cold doesn't strike out again and that I was to eager for competition.

Beitostølen:

I participated against the specialists this christmas. I went up to Beitostølen to get a really good run-through and to be pushed all the way to the finish-line by the guys that really knows this stuff! I got a really good session, where I held a relatively constant high speed, but lacked that final jolt that would make me go 30 seconds faster. Still I figure that this would be a strong race in most nordic combined competitions. Beitostølen also delivered a great day with 5 minus degrees, sun and hundreds of happy skiing contenders! A good working day for me!

Jonas

The latter part of the summer-season was very good! Strong jumping and fresh cross-country form! 2 weeks to late for a great result in the KK-compp, but still very fun!

The first part of the winter turned out a bit troubly. A bit to few sessions both in the hill and the tracks makes the form voulnerable. That counts in the World Cup. I get drafted, which is really good, but does not perform at all. It is a great disappoitment to not participate even though I had the chance.

Last weekend I was in Trondheim for the Nemicup. My jumping on training after the WC has been good and with faith I went over the mountains to Granåsen. There I did the worst jumps since the WC and is once more very disappointed of my competitions.

The week after I have had over 20 jumps and all of them have been better than the Granåsen ones. 10-15 of them have great quality, so I believe that things aren't like they looked on the results. Currently I am in a hard interval-bulk period. That period ends with a race on Beitostølen against the specialists on th 30th of December. So we'll just have to see how the form develops, how the legs feel like, how the jumping turns out and stuff like that!

But first, Christmas! Now I am going home to my family that I haven't seen in way to long and enjoy lazy evenings and good talks!

Merry Christmas!!! :)

Supersprint and the KK-camp

The Glava Supersprint i Lillehammer centre is a huge party. Several thousands of people walking by, cheering, clapping and shouting makes us feel like stars for a day! The competition itself went pretty good. I ended in 4th after being beaten by Truls in the semi-finals. I am happy with beating other very good skiers. Also the weather was nice, crowd was supporting and I had a good day at work!

In the KK-camp competition I did fairly good as well! I did medium jumps, like I have been doing some weeks. The cross-country was really hard but also very good. I sprinted into Nyeng Olsens back and we helped each other catch other racers all 10 km's. In the end I finished 6th after Nyeng Olsen went away on the last climb. I am happy with that, not that he went away, but the result itself. There are great athletes behind me and I am nowhere near my best in the hill.

The weekend made me more optimistic for the winter actually. I have gotten yet more confirmation that the XC-part is where it has to be. In addition I feel like the jumping can be solved easier and I do feel that increasing the lenght of each jump isn't that far away. I am starting to smell the snow and starting to really looking forward to it as well! This will be awesome!

Hi guys!

It is that time of year where we have our annual NC-camp at Lillehammer. As previous years there will also be the Supersprint in the city center. 200m straight forward, some uphill. Prolouge with 16 guys moving into finals. Last man standing. Speed, adrenaline, show, music and a lot of action is scheduled. In addition we have ordered nice weather and our order is ready! ;)

Not so much news to report about the latest weeks.

I have had tests at Lillehammer University College and they show quite some improvement on my XC-abilities. I have also improved my jumping abilities both without extra weight and with extra weight.
My physical feeling is also better. Also my XC-technique feels somewhat better. I feel more relaxed, balanced and more of the effort goes into making speed.
When it comes to my jumping I am having some difficulties. I have decided to train less a few weeks and hope that eases technical issues and makes me solve problems faster and easier. Not that the jumping is bad, it is just not good enough. Yet.

Triatlon!

The triathlon-part started with rollerski classic style. Something I have done 2 times before in my life. Literally. After a short half-hour I changed to bike 1 minute after Resaland and Bakken. Halfway into the bike-stage I caught them and past them. Resaland staid on my tail. I tried to get him in front of me a few times but he would not take wind. So I tried to keep the speed as high as possible to get seconds on Bakken that I knew was left behind to catch him in the overall. When we changed to running-shoes, Resaland already had his shoes on and I had to change. That meant I had 20 seconds to catch again! I caught up with Resaland 4-5 minutes into the running and I kept the speed all the way. In the end I had been pushing evenly towards the finish for a strong time, Resaland saved for a finish-sprint. He won the stage with me 10-15 seconds behind. Good result for me! After I finished someone told me that the General Classification is not on time, but points from each stage! So I should have done very differently to win the stage. Not pulling both on the bike and running! On the other hand, the training were better when I pushed hard every stride towards the finish-line!

It was actually superfun to compete such a long competition and to have such a day! I felt good! And I believe that comes from a lot of hard training all summer. Good to learn and good to know in my backhead that the work I have done so far is good quality!

Spåtind Opp!

Running up Spåtind is a known stage for me. I have ran up this hill maybe 20-30 times in my life. The last days have had a lot of rain, and the track was slippery, muddy and wet. And also fun! 8 minutes into the race, I was already really high on intensity, but I decided to never mind and try to keep strong. That worked almost. The last 5 minutes were excruciating! Still I finished in 44.16, 35 seconds faster than last year despite worse conditions. Good to know! :) Now I am just dreading the rollerskipart of tomorrow!

Tour de Synnfjell - friday!

Last evening I participated in Tour de Synnfjell. 5km on Bruflat in my home place, Etnedal, in 12.59. Good result. Today I will be running up to Spåtind. It's raining and it's cold up there. I can't wait to get started! :)

Pics from all of the weekend will come later!

Hi guys!

Just a quick update. I have been training a lot. I have had many tired evenings and sleepy mornings. But I love it! I did som bike racing, a lot of running, skiing, power training and everything else I believe is important to be ready for the winter!
I ran 2secs behind my personal best in Hafjell-test. And I felt really bad, so I guess that means I have even more in me this year than last! =)

Johnaaaaz

June has come!

I am writing a new month in my training diary and then I guess it's time to update my homepage as well!
I have been training good lately. I have come to a good start and I feel the motivation is strong, I want to train more, harder and better all the time! For now I try to make a solid foundation in hours, so that I will peak in the winter. It is good to feel the motivation tear in my body! :)

Last week tje summer jumping started again and it was good! I am working with a clear technical philosophy these days, and I think that in some jumping sessions, both in the hill and on the ground this really will respond in distance jumped! :)
I also tested vo2max, lactate, squat, jumping ability and ran the Hafjell-test since last update, and it all looks fine. Still I feel there is much more to come on all parametres!

Jonas

May-update:

The last weekend didn't turn out to be all I wanted it to be. I really believed in medals in the seasons last competition. By losing the worlds best NC-athlete from the team, obviously the chances reduce.
Anyways we all did a good job and was awarden a 5th place.

After the season I have spent a lot of time nurturing my family and friends. I have also tried to get on top of things financially.

In may I started serious training again and have gotten to a fair start with power training and intervals and long days on rollerskis, bikes or running.

During may I also got the message that I am on the recruit National Team for next winter. It is very pleasing that more people than me believe in me! This trust I have been shown I will use to train harder, train more and train smarter!

This weekend I am going to my sisters wedding! Yeeah!! :)

Nemi NC in Voss

After a fun weekend in Høydalsmo it was time to make the last regular NC-weekend in Voss. A hill I have never tried, tracks have never skied and it thrills me! You tend to get a bit used to the same hills and tracks and to broaden the horizon somewhat is really nice! The hill is a bit odd with a very shurt table, but during the competitions, when he tension is there, I hit the table OK! Technically I did two fair jumps with 94 and 94,5 meters.

On Saturday I started together with Mikko, and we agreed to help each other to a good finish. I took the lead on the first lap and when Mikko took over I just couldn't keep up. I thought I opened in an OK pace, but I had only an average day. After skiing with Gudmund after that I decided to leave him behind and finished alone just behind Thomas list).
A 4th place with that kind of competition is something I am happy with. When I know that both jump and XC is just average, that's a good thing.

The sunday I had a bit better starting point and started closer to Gudmund and Thomas and somewhat ahead of Mikko. I quickly caught up with Gudmund and Thomas, and when I felt my skis were good and the body was better than yesterday I decided to leave them immidiately. I did. Skiing alone I tried to find a good pace that I figured Mikko would catch eventually. Gudmund fought in Mikkos back and they both caught up with me, and suddenly we were 3 fighting for 2nd place. We skied together to the finale, where Mikko sprinted in an unexpected place. There was headwind and the place where I didn't see it coming caught me off guard. The last curve I made good speed and catches Gudmund. Mikko finishes a second ahead of me and Gudmund, but I am ahead of Gudmund (list)! After a podium place I am more happy, since I am closer to Magnus who was untouchable, and practically in Mikkos back. I feel I am competing with the WC-guys when they hammer it. All in all, a good weekend.

Now there is one weekend left with Norwegian Championships part 2 (3 men County-relay) and the last competition in Nemi NC. Even though the season is soon finished the motivation really shows! Having said that, I am also looking forward to the spring with sunny trips, mountaineering, biking, friends and warmer weather!

An update after the Norwegian Championship

After the Championship I went to Eisenerz. The weekend was somewhat slow with two 16th places and poor performances on my behalf. After that Nemicup in Molde followed. There I had better days and finished both days as winner. The first victories for this season. To win, to be the first crossing the finish line is absolutely awesome! It is incredibly satisfying knowing that you are the best that day.

After watching the Oslo2011 and becoming very inspired a new round of COC took place. This time in Norway on home ground. The home ground being Høydalsmo and Huka. A familiar arena where I have done good previously. To sum it up: FUN! The first day I ended in the podium, and fought for the victory to the last meter. My XCs were strong and I took most guys there. The next days I start in a better plsce, but further behind. I know it will be hard, buit I struggle through 10km with 3rd fastest XC and ends in 10th total.

Now the season is almost over, but I still want to train and compete! It is fun with good results! :)

Norwegian Championships in Steinkjer 2011

Opposite of last winter I go into the NC with a very good competition-feeling. The jumping has been of high quality on all trainings since Christmas, and I am really looking forward to compete more after the good feelings I got in Harrachov.
My goals for the weekend were: 1, have fun in competition with my team-mates. 2, achieve at least one good jump of the two counting. 3, do two even and strong races with quite consistent speed. The Friday was our jumping day, where we tested the hill, do the individual jump and the team-sprint jump. One trial jump to test the hills, and in the trial-round I do a superb jump. It is extreme fun and exhilaration when you land all the way in the bottom. When I was to do the individual jump I had to work really hard with myself to be present and not get too excited after the previous great jump. I do that good. The next jump is not that good, but still of high quality and a good technical jump. 94,5m and a 4th place before the XC is something I am very happy with!
I am also looking forward to the team-sprint jump. After doing good jumps, jumping is all fun! Competition or not is not that important. By teaming up with Mikko, who won the individual jump-competition I know that this competition as well can be very funny. My jump is pretty much average, not particularly good or bad, but 91,5m and I am a contender. Together with Mikko we’re in the lead! ?

At Saturday morning I arrive at the ski stadium 90minutes before the race. I test the skis and deliver the best pair to the Madshus-guys to make them race ready. I do an even and strong race. Lacking that final ultimateness I am not able to ski away from the guys in my back. With no wind I think I could maintain the small gaps that opened. Still I struggle into a bronze-medal! In the finale I lose the Silver-medal to Håvard Klemetsen that is a great sprinter. I started the sprint a bit too soon and was shot when 30m still remained. That may also make the finish look a bit stupid, because I couldn’t keep up the pace and technique past the line. I don’t think about that much. BRONZE-medal in the Norwegian Championships!! ? That is beyond what I expected! I hoped to be in the vicinity of the World Championship-team and I really was!

On Sunday I gave the same skis to Madshus and they do the work well! In the team-sprint I start first. I work hard through the first 4 stages and hammer it on the 5th. Mikko is also stronger than his stage-competitors, so 9 seconds in the start is the closest our contenders ever were. It is incredible to win the GOLD! And a team-effort makes the experience and the team-spirit even better! In addition the other NTG-team, Hedmark ended in silver!

You can safely say that I reached my goals for the Norwegian Championships. I accomplished all 3 goals and got great results as a consequence of that. To me it is extra fun that family, friends, my girlfriend and other that know me got to see me in action! As an unknown athlete it is very fun to show a good side of me to sponsors, friends, family and known ones!

Right now I am in a Transit on my way to Eisenerz in Austria. New competition! I hope to do the same as in NC. 1, have fun travelling with my team-mates. 2, make at least one good jump of the two competition jumps. 3, do two high quality races.

Howdy! I thought I should present this years equipment-mix!

Like earlier I choose Norwegian skis! Madshus are the best. Period. And the new are already favourites! Great skis!! :)
My jumping skis will be Elan as earlier. Good aerodynamics and good lengths are their job! With the right flex and balance that leads to balance, confidence and the foundation for me to take another step or three! :)

The XC-boots are like last year Alpina! This years model is a bit wider and more padded for Nordic conditions. In addition they come with some adjustment-kit that makes me able to adjust the boots like I want to! That provides my feel with the skis and snow better and makes me more precise when pushing. AKA - more speed! :)
New this year are KV+! They make the green poles you've seen on tv. Johnsrud Sundby and Øystein Pettersen among others use them. Rigid, light and with a great pendulum these poles really give back each muscle-investment!
I still use Rass-boots for jumping, Casco shields me in the XC's (read eye-incident nearly 2 years ago) and in the hill (read the fall 2 years ago) and Swix is supplying the clothes. There they are best. Easy as that

Season opening!

Like last year we started the season with a testcomp with the German elite- and b-team. From Norway the elite- and B-team started alongside some WC and COC-possibles. I was one of those. It was great fun to compete with others and finally show what the summer and fall is for. :) I love training, but I train mostly to compete good and to have fun all the winter!

The jump was some distance shorter than I expected. At least given the last days of jumping! The cross-country was OK, but I opened a bit to hard. With a proper finish I could have skied 10-15 secs faster. That would have meant a couple of places. With a good jump as well I should have been a minute better. Had I done that, I would be in discussion for Kuusamo. Now I am focusing on the qual-comp on Wednesday. After that there's a draft for national quota here on homefield. That would be awesome! Nevertheless, exciting days! :D

SKI!

Today I had my first ski training for this winter! :)
That was on Natrudstilen where they have produced snow for a few days now. The tracks that were ready this morning was about 3 minutes long. I went around in 1h32m and had somewhat 30 laps up there. Nice! Good weather, good temperature and after 15m I relaxed more and could enjoy the skis slide through the snow. My body felt OK after test-comp on Wednesday and intervalls yesterday. Tomorrow morning about 6 am I am doing my working bit for the jumpng hills as well. I am not looking so much forward to that, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!

C ya!

That ends the plast season!!

The hills were closed one day early due to prepare the hills for making snow! That's why we couldn't end the summer season with the annual test-comp, but had to arrange a mass-start XC from Lillehammer College to Ersgaard via Ekrom. I ended 3rd behind Ole Martin and Truls. I went out like a rocket but they both clinged on, and when I got a temporary set-back in the race, they got a lead on me. I never caught up with them again when they chase each other all the way to the finish. In the end I was 30 seconds behind. A total time of 16.45. Fair enough.

The jumping season then? Well, it has at times been frustrating and at times thrilling! Regardless I have worked killer-hard to improve my technique, the physics and all parameters affecting how long I can jump. What is missing for this to be gold? Well, I have to loose some pounds, I have to improve my balance and work harder than ever to fix the small eroors in my technique.

Cross-country-wise it has been OK. Hard work over time is simply the way to go. Soon there are XC-tracks in Natrudstilen and then I'll be there most of the time, whenever I'm not in Haakons Hall. :)

Have a dark and nice fall! :)

Quick update!

This Friday I took a quick trip home to Valdres to join the recruits for a training. It was fun for me and motivating, and I saw both talent and skills that is promising for Norwegian winter sports in the years to come!

The gang was about 10 younger guys that I taught a few new ways of training. I hope that more kids join them and if I can fit it in, I will join for more trainings this winter! :)

Hellouuuw!!

It has once again been a while to long since my last update. That is because my motivation for updating is low when I am sick and I can't do the training I know I must. Still, when I look back into my training diary I had 8 hard XC-trainings the first 19 days of September. On the other hand, I had no ones after that in September. Fair enough when I have had issues with my throat, nose, the head and generally having a cold. Despite som illness I have been in Ørnskøldsvik, Sweden, for training camp. And it was a good camp! Good continuity and high focus lead to several steps into the right direction! :) It is reliefing to get the right answers and to feel mastering skills! :) It's fun to float through the air even though it's only a K90-hill.

After that I have had a tiny fall break with mountaneering, visiting family and many hours of training. The winter is coming, the roads are turning slippery with wet leaf, but training is just as fun and giving! :) Maybe even more, because I feel extremely well after having real good sessions in rough weather!

Today I am having power-tests at Lillehammer University College, the last before the winter, so we'll se how the legs respond today. I have been training hard, so they should be rockets. Tomorrow I have max squat-test. I am hoping for good results there as well! Exciting!

KK-competition on Sunday

This competition was unfortunately a minor setback for me. After being to keen on the jump, and getting a few meters to short, I started the XC hard in between Truls, Magnus, Ole Martin and Andrè. The speed was high and my body felt OK. But after a few kilometers I can clearly feel that I am not well. A quick decision during the race ended in me not finishing. Being ill now is not good timing, and it is important to train hard the next week rather than squeezing all the juice from my body and get an honorable placing in a summer competition. But to be honest, I almost started crying afterwards, because not finishing is more painful than any other XC...

Looking at my form now, the following tuesday, it was definetely a right decision. Because I am still not all right.

Lillehammer Supersprint

This years Supersprint did not go so great as it did last year. I ended in an honorable 8th place after the prologue, despite pole-fencing and with non-excisting technique. When I was racing the 1/8-final against Maxime Laheurte my pole-tip broke midway through and I lost the lead I had and lost by 4/100 seconds. These things happen in the Lillehammer Supersprint. The technique, the equipment, the power and the timing has to be present to achieve top results.

But right now I am relaxing for tomorrows traditional nordic combined competition and I am really looking forward to competing again! I haven't done that since snow! It will be thrilling! :)

A small comment to myself:

I skied on my rollerskis the other day and started thinking a bit. During that period I also remembered several other highlights of last season. Mainly the Test-World Championships in Oslo. It was amazing to be part of the famous Holmenkollen-Sunday and to experience the rush, pressure and excitement that follows the World Cup in Nordic Combined together with ski-jumping and cross country. In addition I have to point out all the great XC's I did this winter. At times it was hilarious to wear myself totally, but still having distanced most of my competitors a long time before I got exhausted. A great feeling to bring into the summer, fall and last but not least into the winter.

August 11th, 2010

Hi!

It's now been a full six months since my last update. And that is aproximately six months to much. My last update was actually my last great experience competition-wise that winter. The whole season was hard, and I felt like lagging behind from the start to the finish. A shame, but still true. That season is now history. I ended 3rd in the overall NemiCup, and unfortunately did not get renewed trust in the national team for the season I am in now.

The new season is three months old, and I have ran like never before. One of the changes for this season is to run more. That is a step taken to increase my XC-capacity, increase the contraction-speed of my muscles to ease the transfer into ski-jumping and to reduce muscle mass in my arms and shoulders. Does it work? YES! I jump good these days, I set a new personal best in the Hafjell-test and I truly feel things are running smoothly. I am way ahead of where I was at the same time last year, when an ancle-injury ruined the summer-season (and the winterseason?).

Currently I am working a few weeks to pay for some of my sporting ambitions, and I am training rock-hard to achieve my sporting ambitions as well. I am motivated!

The Norwegian Championships of ski in Stokke and Vikersund

As I wrote a few days ago, my goal is to reach top 6 the weekend.

After a bit of troubled jumping all Friday, I work hard and reaches my best jump in the competition. Still I end 21st, something I am not happy with. But still I know that I am of the fastest skiers, even in a great XC-race like the here. It is very important to me to know that I can fight with anyone in a good day.

The next day I was determined to do a really great race. I was aggressive all the way and charged every hill and bump in the course. My body feels very fit and then I can go like that all 10km. It is an amazing sensation when the technique plays along and I have the power all the way.

After passing skier after skier, I suddenly found myself trying to catch 4th and 5th place. Unfortunately the distance was a bit too far, and I finished in 6th place. Something I am very happy with after that starting position. This was a very good cross-country!

Later that Saturday, after the XC, we drove back to Vikersund from Stokke to do our jumping for the relay on Sunday. The jumping was a smidge better than yesterday, but still I am not where I wish to be. Still I am waiting for that confirmation that I still can.

The relay turned into an exciting affair between Sør-Trøndelag, Hedmark and Oppland. I skied first leg for Oppland and took us into the lead, but I sent out Øystein with the others. My objective was to give Øystein Granbu Lien a head start. I wasn’t able to do that this time. Still Mikko Kokslien skied our last leg really well, and we ended 2nd after Sør-Trøndelag with Hedmark finishing in bronze-place. So, another silver-medal in my collection. It is great to bring a medal in addition to my personal great competition on Saturday.

That I ski into a 6th place is a very uplifting result despite the jumping that didn’t go to well. I think that is a good sign, that I still can be with the best on a bad jumping-day. Because of that, I am actually very optimistic on behalf of the rest of the season. I believe that I have the capacity now, that I can continue training hard and develop throughout the season instead of having everything falling apart just because of some travelling. It is very important to have that capacity to endure competing, travelling and still train really hard every day.

In the end I want to thank Swix who waxed my skies on Saturday and Lillehammer Skiklubb that waxed them on Sunday. Thank you!

This weekend I went to Nord-Trøndelag for competitions. Sprova and Steinkjer cooperated in arranging NEMIcup for us left in Norway.

In Sprova there was some wind. I did one bad and one good jump. And at the same time I had really bad wind and really good wind. That made the difference of the two jumps into 16m! My Saturday-jump landed in 83m, and my Sunday-jump landed in 99m. That is a very good jump that makes all the difference to me. It proves that I can. It proves that I still have jumping inside of me. It is a great confidence-boost.

Along the wind there were a lot of degrees below zero. So because my throat wasn’t good on Saturday, I decided to not ski that day. Sunday on the other hand, the forecast was a bit better and with less wind. That made the decisions quite easy on me. I also had a much better starting-position in Sunday.

On Sunday I won quite big. 1.23 back to Espen Rian is something I am proud of! The whole XC-race was a parade, but still I had the best time, and that proves that my XC-skills are really great nowadays. And when I make a jump like that, no one was close that day.

That means that I can cash in my first victory for this season, and if I do a good job every training-session of every day for the next two months, I believe that I can keep on finishing in the top. And not just with Norwegian competitors…

A small update after NEMIcup in Lillehammer and before Nationals in Vikersund and Stokke.

NEMIcup in Lillehammer ended in a sort of anticlimax on my behalf. My training has been very good lately and my body has felt light. That's why I was a bit disappointed to be beaten by Ole Martin by that much both days. Still I got two 2nd places and valuable points in the overall cup.

Today, Friday, there's the jumping competition in Vikersund for this years Norwegian Championships in ski. That'll be fun! I wish I could say that I am going for the gold since I got the silver last year, but my jumping hasn't been all that the last week, and I am very happy with a 6th. And to be honest, a 10th can also be really good, because there are many really good nordic combiners in Norway! The team competition will also be very exciting, where my team, Oppland is reigning champions. Sør-Trøndelag is the huge favourite this year as well, but maybe we cna strike from below and do something magnific this year as well? Anyways it will be very thrilling.

STOKKE, HERE I COME!

Season kickoff in the Nemicup in Granåsen, Trondheim.

And then the season officially started on my behalf as well! It is nice to travel to other places than Lillehammer to compete. After a few hours north on the E6, we can once more gazer at Granåsen in all its glory.

When we arrived Thursday the snow-cannons were running on full speed and the jumping arena looked spotless. We were promised :There will be a competition!.

The Saturdays competition turned out to be a let down on my behalf. I did a good trial jump, but I didn’t manage to do the same in my competition jump, and then a lot of other guys fly past me. That meant that I had to start the XC-race way down in 11-12th. So, after a somewhat unmotivated XC I ended in 8th place. Obviously, the guys in front of me are all great Nordic combiners, but still I am not happy with that kind of competing.

The Sunday turned out quite differently. The jump is just a bit better than yesterdays but this time I am in the vicinity of much better results. That means that it is easier to find that little extra power during the race as well. I started 14 secs behind Ole Martin, and after 5 km I was on his tail. From there on in we raced together, gaining places all the time. And when he didn’t get enough meters on me on the last uphill I knew this would be settled in a sprint-duel. I believe that I am faster than he is, and luckily I beat him. That meant that I could put a 3rd place behind the race and I am bringing a podium place home for Christmas.

Now I have quiet days at home with my family in Etnedal before I again drive to Lillehammer to get some jumps as well during the holidays. What happens in 2010 is still a bit blurry, but the alternatives are Nemicup in Hurdal and COC in Otepää, Estonia. There is no doubt what I want to do.

Merry Christmas! God Jul! Feliz Navidad, Frohe Weinachten!

A long overdue update!

It has been a long time since I last updated my webpage. The snow has arrived, the World Cup has started and it is a long time ago since my first flying sessions and the first miles on ski.

Actually I have gotten a rather good start to my winter. The jumping has been fairly good on training and my XC-form is the way it should be.
One of my main goals for the season was to participate in the World cup in Granåsen. That competition was rescheduled in Lillehammer and that didn't make the motivation any smaller. But that also lead to high shoulders during the audition-competitions and during the test-competitions that were important. That resulted in poor jumping. Then there's not that much comfort in me going one of the fastest XC's I've ever done.

What is good to bring along for the rest of the winter is that my training-jumps are good, and that my XC speed is really good these days. I will continue building on that towards next weekends NemiCup in Granåsen and obviously into 2010 where I have great plans.

Summary: The form is about where it should have been, and I am now working really hard to direct my form into being great in january. And I believe that I can do that. My jumping is ever improving now that I have some energy left after XC-training. It is amazing how easy jumping can be when you're not tired when you start each session! :)

I haven't quite started my season yet since I have only had test-comps, but I am sure that it can be fun to get started and I am really looking forward to Granåsen and a real season-start!

Now I have gotten another sponsor and cooperator!

Sevilhaug Fysikalske Institutt is driven by Vegard Sevilhaug, a physiotherapist on Dokka. Vegard is also the father of Andreas, a guy as old as me that used to ski nordic combined with me for years.

Vegard have been helping me for a long time with simple exercises to prevent injuries and to gain maximum from my training. Vegard is also a great sparringpartner for me to share my experiences and my learnings in training that he can use to help his customers.

Now I have finally gotten the first sponsors in place for the winter.

As previous years I have had the chance to work with VOKKS, Etnedal Sparebank, Maxbo Etnedal and Elkjøp Fagernes. These companies have been my team-mates for years and it is nice that they let me be an ambassadeur for Etnedal and Valdres and having them support me in that. These are all rock solid businisses that are driven in a very professional and efficient way. That will to always achieve is something that I also strive after in my career.

VOKKS (Vest Oppland Kommunale KraftSelskap, Western Oppland Municipalities Power Company) The biggest and best power supplier in our region.
Etnedal Sparebank (Etnedal Savings Bank) is the 100-years old savings bank that still stands solid and is the safe and homely alternative. Here we know each other!
Maxbo Etnedal has been run a bit north in our valley for many years, and with new management I am certain that Maxbo Etnedal will still be bigger, better and still be safe supplier of construction goods to all in Etnedal and sorroundings.
Elkjøp Fagernes is definetely the best consumer electronics shop in Valdres. In addition it is good to know that one can return in any of the other Elkjøps in Norway. It is also nice to leave some money locally instead of in some webshop in south of Norway.

These sponsors contribute so that I can work even harder on the sport and use less hours at work. I hope this pays off in better results and that I reach my goals as an athlete.

On the equipmentfront I have gotten Elan jumpskis, Madshus cross-country skis, Alpina cross-country shoes and Swix cross-country poles.

This is all producers I know and trust to make the finest piece of equipment in the whole world. I am confident that my gear is as good as any others. I can't wait to use it! :)

The summer is definetely coming to an end and the summer-jumping season is over.

Jump-wise it has been some turbulence this summer, but I always focus on the winter. Therefore it is very pleasing to see that the last two weeks of jumping have been very good. It is asurring to know that all the hours pay off in the end. My last jump-day we had a test-competition with 5 jumps. That competition on the other hand went pretty bad, and it is a shame that I don't just do what I did the previous days. But it is good learning in that as well.

Cross-country part is on schedule. I tried the skies last week and tomorrow we are having a test-XC with the elite-team on Natrudstilen. It will be excting to see how the other guys have started the snow-season. The results may vary a bit due to some people using very old skis, some using new, and some have lots of hours on snow and some have just a few.

That competition will end 5 days of hard XC-training (3 hard-trainings in these 5 days + XC-training in between) and in a few days this camp will be over that started the previous Monday.

Hi everybody!

Now my page has a new layout! :) Didn't it turn out nice?

In a few days I'll be back with a quick update from this summers jumping, because I have just done my last plastic-jumps of 2009.

An update of what happened in September:

And so much have happened!

The KK-camp turned into a fine experience with great results in the Lillehammer Supersprint. Like last year I won the prolouge, but this year I made it alle the way into the final, where I eventually lost to Todd Lodwick. So be it, but it was a really funny day! :D

In the next-day competition I did OK. An 11th place will have to do. I had a pole-tip that kept twisting, and also did so in the last hill where Tommy made a speed-increase. He ended 9th, and in a normal situation, Tommy will never be able to loose me in a last lap. After this summers jumping I am hapy with a 11th place and being 7th among Norwegians.

The next day we went to Torsby to get some hours on snow again. That actually went really great, and the bode felt good, the technique was pretty good and I feel comforted for the winter.

That next Saturday we went off to the annual abroad-camp in Zakopane. I feel I got a lot out of it even thoug the jumping wasn't great. I felt like a was struggling uphill, but remember, it is the uphill that take you to the top. So I just work hard and determined to reach my goals.

During the fall break I got my head back on place. After having somewhat high shoulders and being tired, nothing is like our mountaineous cottage. Getting some days in the mountains really got my shoulders down and the smile back on my face.

This week I have had my first hours on natural snow here in Lillehammer. A record-early snowfall have made cross-country tracks on Sjusjøen and that is good. I like to maintain my feeling for snow as much as possible towards the winter.

Tomorrow we have a new camp here in Lillehammer with the last jumps for the (white) summer. I am looking forward to getting good continuity on the jumping and technique.

The weather is cooler, the snow is falling and I got my wool-pants on. This smells like winter! :D:D

KK-samling:

Now it's that time of year again. It is the annual KK-camp here at Lillehammer! As previous years we're having the Supersprint, full throttle and plenty of action in the centre of Lillehammer on Saturday. Since I currently hold the track record I will give it my very best to beat my previous results! :) I am looking forward to this competition. It's very funny and something we do once a year. It is one of the highlights of a grey Autumn.
On Sunday we are having a normal nordic-combined competition. It will be fun to measure up against the best once more.

Tour de Synnfjell:

My lead-up towards this years Tour de Synnfjell was pretty hard. I had an o2-test on Tuesday with great improvement from the spring and the Hafjell-test Thursday, where I ended 1 sec behind my personal best. These two results tell me that I during the summer have gone some quality training. It seems that I have lifted my physical level somewhat from last year. Good news! :)

This weekend I was a cross-country athlete and participated in Tour de Synnfjell. The weekend of competitions is arranged by Team Synnfjell and is the only opportunity I have to compete on home-ground all year. The Fridays rollerski-prologue went preety good, despite the fact that I did an extra lap. People looking at intermediate times knew aproximately how fast I went, and gave me an estimated finish-time. I guess that time is quite correct. I ended just behind the best guys, but within the time that I think is good, given that they are all very capable XC-athletes!

On Saturday I ran Spåtind Opp! It is a well known track and Spåtind is also Etnedals highest peak with 1414 meters above sea level. So it is nice for me to finally compete up there as well. This year I ran 2 minutes faster than last year, and that is very good! This year I did it in 44.10.

On Sunday triathlon was on the programme. I chose to not participate because I have another training camp starting already today, Monday. This week has jumping focus and I need fit and light legs, otherwise I will nok be able to do the adjustements in jumping that I need towards the winter. So to be a better nordic-combined athlete I prioritized jumping training this week instead of competing cross-country Sunday.

A long overdue update:

After having trained and trained and studied and studied, I finally remembered update my homepage!

This summer has been average, because of a minor football-injury that lasted from May to July. This has obviously affected my jumping-technique, but still I have tried my hardest to be determined and ambitious towards the winter.

My cross-country training has been going pretty much accordingly to plan and I do believe I have done a good job so long. These days the air is turning colder, the rain sets in every now and then, and I am really looking forward till the snow falls... :)

Update

After recieving the news that I am on the National Recruit-team the following season I am very happy.
It is great to have such a massive organization like Norges Skiforbund backing me up so that I can acheive my goals as an athlete. This also means the ones in power have seen me and my potential in a good way.
This fits perfect into my plan to reach international championships in the future.
