This years Supersprint did not go so great as it did last year. I ended in an honorable 8th place after the prologue, despite pole-fencing and with non-excisting technique. When I was racing the 1/8-final against Maxime Laheurte my pole-tip broke midway through and I lost the lead I had and lost by 4/100 seconds. These things happen in the Lillehammer Supersprint. The technique, the equipment, the power and the timing has to be present to achieve top results.
But right now I am relaxing for tomorrows traditional nordic combined competition and I am really looking forward to competing again! I haven't done that since snow! It will be thrilling! :)
JonasI skied on my rollerskis the other day and started thinking a bit. During that period I also remembered several other highlights of last season. Mainly the Test-World Championships in Oslo. It was amazing to be part of the famous Holmenkollen-Sunday and to experience the rush, pressure and excitement that follows the World Cup in Nordic Combined together with ski-jumping and cross country. In addition I have to point out all the great XC's I did this winter. At times it was hilarious to wear myself totally, but still having distanced most of my competitors a long time before I got exhausted. A great feeling to bring into the summer, fall and last but not least into the winter.
JonasIt's now been a full six months since my last update. And that is aproximately six months to much. My last update was actually my last great experience competition-wise that winter. The whole season was hard, and I felt like lagging behind from the start to the finish. A shame, but still true. That season is now history. I ended 3rd in the overall NemiCup, and unfortunately did not get renewed trust in the national team for the season I am in now.
The new season is three months old, and I have ran like never before. One of the changes for this season is to run more. That is a step taken to increase my XC-capacity, increase the contraction-speed of my muscles to ease the transfer into ski-jumping and to reduce muscle mass in my arms and shoulders. Does it work? YES! I jump good these days, I set a new personal best in the Hafjell-test and I truly feel things are running smoothly. I am way ahead of where I was at the same time last year, when an ancle-injury ruined the summer-season (and the winterseason?).
Currently I am working a few weeks to pay for some of my sporting ambitions, and I am training rock-hard to achieve my sporting ambitions as well. I am motivated!
JonasAs I wrote a few days ago, my goal is to reach top 6 the weekend.
After a bit of troubled jumping all Friday, I work hard and reaches my best jump in the competition. Still I end 21st, something I am not happy with. But still I know that I am of the fastest skiers, even in a great XC-race like the here. It is very important to me to know that I can fight with anyone in a good day.
The next day I was determined to do a really great race. I was aggressive all the way and charged every hill and bump in the course. My body feels very fit and then I can go like that all 10km. It is an amazing sensation when the technique plays along and I have the power all the way.
After passing skier after skier, I suddenly found myself trying to catch 4th and 5th place. Unfortunately the distance was a bit too far, and I finished in 6th place. Something I am very happy with after that starting position. This was a very good cross-country!
Later that Saturday, after the XC, we drove back to Vikersund from Stokke to do our jumping for the relay on Sunday. The jumping was a smidge better than yesterday, but still I am not where I wish to be. Still I am waiting for that confirmation that I still can.
The relay turned into an exciting affair between Sør-Trøndelag, Hedmark and Oppland. I skied first leg for Oppland and took us into the lead, but I sent out Øystein with the others. My objective was to give Øystein Granbu Lien a head start. I wasn’t able to do that this time. Still Mikko Kokslien skied our last leg really well, and we ended 2nd after Sør-Trøndelag with Hedmark finishing in bronze-place. So, another silver-medal in my collection. It is great to bring a medal in addition to my personal great competition on Saturday.
That I ski into a 6th place is a very uplifting result despite the jumping that didn’t go to well. I think that is a good sign, that I still can be with the best on a bad jumping-day. Because of that, I am actually very optimistic on behalf of the rest of the season. I believe that I have the capacity now, that I can continue training hard and develop throughout the season instead of having everything falling apart just because of some travelling. It is very important to have that capacity to endure competing, travelling and still train really hard every day.
In the end I want to thank Swix who waxed my skies on Saturday and Lillehammer Skiklubb that waxed them on Sunday. Thank you!
This weekend I went to Nord-Trøndelag for competitions. Sprova and Steinkjer cooperated in arranging NEMIcup for us left in Norway.
In Sprova there was some wind. I did one bad and one good jump. And at the same time I had really bad wind and really good wind. That made the difference of the two jumps into 16m! My Saturday-jump landed in 83m, and my Sunday-jump landed in 99m. That is a very good jump that makes all the difference to me. It proves that I can. It proves that I still have jumping inside of me. It is a great confidence-boost.
Along the wind there were a lot of degrees below zero. So because my throat wasn’t good on Saturday, I decided to not ski that day. Sunday on the other hand, the forecast was a bit better and with less wind. That made the decisions quite easy on me. I also had a much better starting-position in Sunday.
On Sunday I won quite big. 1.23 back to Espen Rian is something I am proud of! The whole XC-race was a parade, but still I had the best time, and that proves that my XC-skills are really great nowadays. And when I make a jump like that, no one was close that day.
That means that I can cash in my first victory for this season, and if I do a good job every training-session of every day for the next two months, I believe that I can keep on finishing in the top. And not just with Norwegian competitors…
Jonas
NEMIcup in Lillehammer ended in a sort of anticlimax on my behalf. My training has been very good lately and my body has felt light. That's why I was a bit disappointed to be beaten by Ole Martin by that much both days. Still I got two 2nd places and valuable points in the overall cup.
Today, Friday, there's the jumping competition in Vikersund for this years Norwegian Championships in ski. That'll be fun! I wish I could say that I am going for the gold since I got the silver last year, but my jumping hasn't been all that the last week, and I am very happy with a 6th. And to be honest, a 10th can also be really good, because there are many really good nordic combiners in Norway! The team competition will also be very exciting, where my team, Oppland is reigning champions. Sør-Trøndelag is the huge favourite this year as well, but maybe we cna strike from below and do something magnific this year as well? Anyways it will be very thrilling.
STOKKE, HERE I COME!And then the season officially started on my behalf as well! It is nice to travel to other places than Lillehammer to compete. After a few hours north on the E6, we can once more gazer at Granåsen in all its glory.
When we arrived Thursday the snow-cannons were running on full speed and the jumping arena looked spotless. We were promised :There will be a competition!.
The Saturdays competition turned out to be a let down on my behalf. I did a good trial jump, but I didn’t manage to do the same in my competition jump, and then a lot of other guys fly past me. That meant that I had to start the XC-race way down in 11-12th. So, after a somewhat unmotivated XC I ended in 8th place. Obviously, the guys in front of me are all great Nordic combiners, but still I am not happy with that kind of competing.
The Sunday turned out quite differently. The jump is just a bit better than yesterdays but this time I am in the vicinity of much better results. That means that it is easier to find that little extra power during the race as well. I started 14 secs behind Ole Martin, and after 5 km I was on his tail. From there on in we raced together, gaining places all the time. And when he didn’t get enough meters on me on the last uphill I knew this would be settled in a sprint-duel. I believe that I am faster than he is, and luckily I beat him. That meant that I could put a 3rd place behind the race and I am bringing a podium place home for Christmas.
Now I have quiet days at home with my family in Etnedal before I again drive to Lillehammer to get some jumps as well during the holidays. What happens in 2010 is still a bit blurry, but the alternatives are Nemicup in Hurdal and COC in Otepää, Estonia. There is no doubt what I want to do.
Merry Christmas! God Jul! Feliz Navidad, Frohe Weinachten!
Jonas
It has been a long time since I last updated my webpage. The snow has arrived, the World Cup has started and it is a long time ago since my first flying sessions and the first miles on ski.
Actually I have gotten a rather good start to my winter. The jumping has been fairly good on training and my XC-form is the way it should be.
One of my main goals for the season was to participate in the World cup in Granåsen. That competition was rescheduled in Lillehammer and that didn't make the motivation any smaller. But that also lead to high shoulders during the audition-competitions and during the test-competitions that were important. That resulted in poor jumping. Then there's not that much comfort in me going one of the fastest XC's I've ever done.
Summary: The form is about where it should have been, and I am now working really hard to direct my form into being great in january. And I believe that I can do that. My jumping is ever improving now that I have some energy left after XC-training. It is amazing how easy jumping can be when you're not tired when you start each session! :)
I haven't quite started my season yet since I have only had test-comps, but I am sure that it can be fun to get started and I am really looking forward to Granåsen and a real season-start!
JonasSevilhaug Fysikalske Institutt is driven by Vegard Sevilhaug, a physiotherapist on Dokka. Vegard is also the father of Andreas, a guy as old as me that used to ski nordic combined with me for years.
Vegard have been helping me for a long time with simple exercises to prevent injuries and to gain maximum from my training. Vegard is also a great sparringpartner for me to share my experiences and my learnings in training that he can use to help his customers.
JonasAs previous years I have had the chance to work with VOKKS, Etnedal Sparebank, Maxbo Etnedal and Elkjøp Fagernes. These companies have been my team-mates for years and it is nice that they let me be an ambassadeur for Etnedal and Valdres and having them support me in that. These are all rock solid businisses that are driven in a very professional and efficient way. That will to always achieve is something that I also strive after in my career.
VOKKS (Vest Oppland Kommunale KraftSelskap, Western Oppland Municipalities Power Company) The biggest and best power supplier in our region.
Etnedal Sparebank (Etnedal Savings Bank) is the 100-years old savings bank that still stands solid and is the safe and homely alternative. Here we know each other!
Maxbo Etnedal has been run a bit north in our valley for many years, and with new management I am certain that Maxbo Etnedal will still be bigger, better and still be safe supplier of construction goods to all in Etnedal and sorroundings.
Elkjøp Fagernes is definetely the best consumer electronics shop in Valdres. In addition it is good to know that one can return in any of the other Elkjøps in Norway. It is also nice to leave some money locally instead of in some webshop in south of Norway.
These sponsors contribute so that I can work even harder on the sport and use less hours at work. I hope this pays off in better results and that I reach my goals as an athlete.
On the equipmentfront I have gotten Elan jumpskis, Madshus cross-country skis, Alpina cross-country shoes and Swix cross-country poles.
This is all producers I know and trust to make the finest piece of equipment in the whole world. I am confident that my gear is as good as any others. I can't wait to use it! :)
JonasJump-wise it has been some turbulence this summer, but I always focus on the winter. Therefore it is very pleasing to see that the last two weeks of jumping have been very good. It is asurring to know that all the hours pay off in the end. My last jump-day we had a test-competition with 5 jumps. That competition on the other hand went pretty bad, and it is a shame that I don't just do what I did the previous days. But it is good learning in that as well.
Cross-country part is on schedule. I tried the skies last week and tomorrow we are having a test-XC with the elite-team on Natrudstilen. It will be excting to see how the other guys have started the snow-season. The results may vary a bit due to some people using very old skis, some using new, and some have lots of hours on snow and some have just a few.
That competition will end 5 days of hard XC-training (3 hard-trainings in these 5 days + XC-training in between) and in a few days this camp will be over that started the previous Monday.
JonasNow my page has a new layout! :) Didn't it turn out nice?
In a few days I'll be back with a quick update from this summers jumping, because I have just done my last plastic-jumps of 2009.
JonasAnd so much have happened!
The KK-camp turned into a fine experience with great results in the Lillehammer Supersprint. Like last year I won the prolouge, but this year I made it alle the way into the final, where I eventually lost to Todd Lodwick. So be it, but it was a really funny day! :D

In the next-day competition I did OK. An 11th place will have to do. I had a pole-tip that kept twisting, and also did so in the last hill where Tommy made a speed-increase. He ended 9th, and in a normal situation, Tommy will never be able to loose me in a last lap. After this summers jumping I am hapy with a 11th place and being 7th among Norwegians.
The next day we went to Torsby to get some hours on snow again. That actually went really great, and the bode felt good, the technique was pretty good and I feel comforted for the winter.
That next Saturday we went off to the annual abroad-camp in Zakopane. I feel I got a lot out of it even thoug the jumping wasn't great. I felt like a was struggling uphill, but remember, it is the uphill that take you to the top. So I just work hard and determined to reach my goals.

During the fall break I got my head back on place. After having somewhat high shoulders and being tired, nothing is like our mountaineous cottage. Getting some days in the mountains really got my shoulders down and the smile back on my face.
This week I have had my first hours on natural snow here in Lillehammer. A record-early snowfall have made cross-country tracks on Sjusjøen and that is good. I like to maintain my feeling for snow as much as possible towards the winter.
Tomorrow we have a new camp here in Lillehammer with the last jumps for the (white) summer. I am looking forward to getting good continuity on the jumping and technique.
The weather is cooler, the snow is falling and I got my wool-pants on. This smells like winter! :D:D
Jonas
Now it's that time of year again. It is the annual KK-camp here at Lillehammer! As previous years we're having the Supersprint, full throttle and plenty of action in the centre of Lillehammer on Saturday. Since I currently hold the track record I will give it my very best to beat my previous results! :) I am looking forward to this competition. It's very funny and something we do once a year. It is one of the highlights of a grey Autumn.
On Sunday we are having a normal nordic-combined competition. It will be fun to measure up against the best once more.
My lead-up towards this years Tour de Synnfjell was pretty hard. I had an o2-test on Tuesday with great improvement from the spring and the Hafjell-test Thursday, where I ended 1 sec behind my personal best. These two results tell me that I during the summer have gone some quality training. It seems that I have lifted my physical level somewhat from last year. Good news! :)

This weekend I was a cross-country athlete and participated in Tour de Synnfjell. The weekend of competitions is arranged by Team Synnfjell and is the only opportunity I have to compete on home-ground all year. The Fridays rollerski-prologue went preety good, despite the fact that I did an extra lap. People looking at intermediate times knew aproximately how fast I went, and gave me an estimated finish-time. I guess that time is quite correct. I ended just behind the best guys, but within the time that I think is good, given that they are all very capable XC-athletes!

On Saturday I ran Spåtind Opp! It is a well known track and Spåtind is also Etnedals highest peak with 1414 meters above sea level. So it is nice for me to finally compete up there as well. This year I ran 2 minutes faster than last year, and that is very good! This year I did it in 44.10.
On Sunday triathlon was on the programme. I chose to not participate because I have another training camp starting already today, Monday. This week has jumping focus and I need fit and light legs, otherwise I will nok be able to do the adjustements in jumping that I need towards the winter. So to be a better nordic-combined athlete I prioritized jumping training this week instead of competing cross-country Sunday.
After having trained and trained and studied and studied, I finally remembered update my homepage!
This summer has been average, because of a minor football-injury that lasted from May to July. This has obviously affected my jumping-technique, but still I have tried my hardest to be determined and ambitious towards the winter.
My cross-country training has been going pretty much accordingly to plan and I do believe I have done a good job so long. These days the air is turning colder, the rain sets in every now and then, and I am really looking forward till the snow falls... :)
Jonas
After recieving the news that I am on the National Recruit-team the following season I am very happy.
It is great to have such a massive organization like Norges Skiforbund backing me up so that I can acheive my goals as an athlete. This also means the ones in power have seen me and my potential in a good way.
This fits perfect into my plan to reach international championships in the future.
